Barely 50. Bart Baesens, an intelligent and gifted man, professor at KULeuven, has passed away. He was definitely one of the AI experts at the top university.
About 20 years ago, I met him in the Boardroom, when Jeroen Meus was still a young lad behind the pots. I wanted to meet this promising young academic who was completely devoted to data analysis. Bart predicted the banking crisis of 2008. I always told him that, but he laughed it off. Too modest. Bart, my friend, I will never forget that sunny afternoon. Farewell.
