Martine Tempels, former executive vice president at Telenet Business and founder of CoderDojo Belgium, will receive the prestigious IT Lifetime Achievement Award at Cybersec Europe in Brussels Expo on 22 May. This award crowns her career in the it and telecoms sector and her work for CoderDojo.
Until recently, Martine Tempels was working at Telenet, where she was the vice-president on the telecom operator’s senior leadership team. However, her influence in the Belgian technology sector extends far beyond her role at Telenet.
As founder and president of CoderDojo Belgium, she has spent years helping to make Belgian youth digitally proficient. Under her leadership, the organisation, which teaches children and young people programming, working with robots and 3D printing, has grown into an important platform for digital education. During regular sessions, led by volunteers, essential digital skills are taught to the new generation.
New challenges
Tempels recently decided to pass on the chairmanship of CoderDojo Belgium to Karin Van Hoecke. The IT Lifetime Achievement Award therefore recognises Tempels’ long-standing commitment to digital innovation and her role as a trailblazer for women in the technology sector. Last year, by the way, the IT Lifetime Achievement Award went to a duo: Jef De Wit and Dirk Deroost, the founders of The Cronos Group
