At the beginning of April next year, Patrick Vandenameele will take over from CEO Luc Van den Hove at Imec. Van den Hove has been at the helm of the Leuven-based semiconductor specialist for 17 years. He will become Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Patrick Vandenameele has been with Imec for over eight years and is currently Chief Operating Officer, but he is more of an entrepreneur than his predecessor. Between 2000 and 2017, he worked for various technology companies, including China’s Huawei, and founded several start-ups himself.
A striking quote from an interview with De Tijd: ‘Imec’s business model is resilient to shocks because our technology is used in many applications and because we work on a very long-term basis. We have never grown so fast that it was irresponsible, and we have never had any redundancies. But the high-tech industry is a cyclical sector; that is simply the reality.’
