Citymesh, who owns 49% of Digi, Belgium’s newest mobile operator, will launch an offering for businesses this quarter. ‘And it will be a lot cheaper than existing offerings. There’s still a lot of fat on the soup,’ said Mitch De Geest on the sidelines of the opening of the Citymesh branch in Paris.
According to Mitch De Geest, chairman of Digi Belgium and group CEO of Citymesh, Citymesh already has 50,000 business users. Digi previously announced 78,000 consumers up to Q3. The figures for the full year on the B2C market have yet to be announced but are expected to exceed 100,000.
Should Proximus CEO Stijn Bijnens (former CEO of Cegeka and founder of Digi Belgium) be concerned? Mitch De Geest laughs off the question: ‘Proximus has 80% of the B2B market, around 4 million users. There is still a lot of margin there. We can therefore offer much lower rates.’ With the combination of Citymesh private 5G solutions for businesses, he hopes to offer a strong proposition, although he realises that Belgians are fairly loyal when it comes to mobile services.
Citymesh is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. It has three units: private 5G solutions, Safety drones (in collaboration with Nokia) and 49% of the shares in Digi Belgium. Last year, it had a turnover of almost 80 million euro and positive EBITA (excluding Digi). The 100 million euro mark is in sight.
